Hanna Seiman 's love of color is evidenced in all of her luminous paintings. They are carefully crafted by developing
fields of color on a flat plane that become mysteriously three dimensional, full of movement. Her work pays homage to
abstact expressionism and color field painting, with a keen awareness of light and formal organization. Ms. Seiman has a MA
from NYU and has studied with William Scharf, Larry Poons and Charles Hinman. She has taught in New York and Monmouth County.
Her work has been exhibited in the US and Europe. Ms. Seiman maintains a studio in Monmouth County and New York City.
Artist Statement
Painting and drawing have always been a part of my life.
I place unstretched, unprimed canvas on a low platform and pour washes of thinned paint directly onto the canvas. The
variations in the density of paint and overlaps create a sense of movement and space.
I am still drawing, but now I draw with color. The reverse would be to draw and then put in color. I lay my colors first and
then begin to draw with them. This is a controlled use of staining.
My works are emotionally driven. I am influenced by all that I see and experience. My process literally allows me to pour my
emotions onto a canvas.
